mount-samat-2MANILA, Philippines – The Shrine of Valor atop the historic Mount Samat will be the focal point of the development of the area in Bataan province as a war memorial and a premier tourist spot.

The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has commissioned Berckman Landholding, a land developer, at a cost of P15 million to prepare a comprehensive masterplan to develop the historic Mount Samat in the upland village of Liyang, Pilar town as a world-class war memorial shrine and a premier tourist spot in Central Luzon.

Mayor Alicia Pizarro of Pilar town told The STAR that a businessman is eyeing to build a cable car from the town’s Flaming Sword monument to the Shrine of Valor, a distance of about seven kilometers, as a centerpiece of the development.

With the master development plan, TIEZA aims to encourage foreign and local investors to get involved in the tourism project.

Aside from the cable car, Pizarro said other plans include an interactive museum, hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, theme park, ecumenical chapel, convention center with about 2,000-person capacity and a capsule-type elevator to go up Mount Samat.
