Once again, we left our metropolitan comfort zone last weekend and trekked the old MacArthur Highway toward San Simon, a small town (50,000 inhabitants) 45 kilometers north of Manila. A classmate was celebrating her 70th birthday at an eatery called FUD 4 U. It was an afternoon of great food, fresh from the fields and the rivers and sheltered by a bamboo structure that took me back to the days when life was simple, friends were true, and love was forever.

We got out of the NLEX San Simon exit 30 minutes after leaving Balintawak and reached our destination a few minutes later. After last week’s smooth ride to Meycauayan, Bulacan for another serendipitous food trip, we were convinced it would be more convenient to dine out of town than in BGC, Libis, Katipunan, Kalayaan, or Timog. More adventurous, too.
